Course Description

The SPR-I course is a three day (over 24 hour) course that will give you the theory knowledge, shooting practice and the ballistics skills needed to reach Steyr's accuracy potential of 600 yards and beyond. In our personal trainer environment with at most 7 students, our expert and Steyr's Training Academy director Eduardo Abril de Fontcuberta will insure results for all participants. He is a long-range world champion that has over 25 years experience as a military and police sniper instructor and armorer, and is one of the World's Extreme Long Range leaders. He is dedicated to teaching you a no-nonsense course, including rifle marksmanship, fundamentals, and the knowledge to be able to make your own super-accurate paper and electronic tables, as well as understand how and what different factors affect your shooting. At our dynamic classroom sessions and during range practice, he will adapt to your needs and cover fundamentals of marksmanship and components of successful long range shooting. This includes wind estimation, ballistics know-how and software options, new hardware and optics, and a Steyr Logbook for data collection. You will learn how to properly zero your rifle, select the best zero distance for your application, and test your scope and rifle performance accurately. During the course, you will have access to the latest equipment available to long range shooters. You will also learn how to select new equipment on your own, as well as refine what you already have. If you don't own a Steyr rifle prior to the course, you can rent one of our Steyr Pro THB models for the duration. Other rifle models are available on request. By the end of the course, you will be able to operate with confidence on your own when shooting targets or hunting.

Steyr Precision Rifle I is a stand-alone course for those wanting to become better shooters at ranges beyond typical hunting and sports shooting. The SPR-I course can also be the gateway to more advanced courses such as Steyr Precision Rifle II (SPR-II) and our Steyr Tactical Rifle (STR) course.

The class was simply--in one word--GREAT. Review by G.M.
Quality
The class was simply--in one word--GREAT.

* I wasn’t too confidant in being able to hit a 600-yard target, much less hit it in the black, yet hit it I did every time, including the first shot.
* Anytime you can take an average somebody off of the street and have him/her hit a 600-yard target cold-bore, that is more than impressive!
* The class material was great. I never like it when I’m told step-by-step exactly what to do—I like to know why I’m doing something this way or that way. The class had a delightful mix of theory and praxis and I think I understood the why of everything we did.
* Eduardo wasn’t fixated on one-way of doing things, thank goodness. You can lie prone this way, or you can sit at the bench that way, whatever seems comfortable and right to you. (Just like in pro Golf: there’s more than one way to swing that club).
* Having a real expert with real-world experience teaching was simply great. For example, after taking a shot and adjusting the scope for a correction, my next shot went on the other side of the bulls’ eye. He explained why that happened—it might have taken me 20 years of shooting on my own to learn what Eduardo explained to me in 60 seconds.
* Transportation to CMP was provided—thank goodness—I had forgotten my GPS at home—plus it was fun talking with the guys!
* Lunch was a nice touch, too! It was good, and kept the pace going.
* Eduardo made some suggestions on equipment. Because of his expertise, his suggestions carried real weight with me, rather than some guy at the range, in some gun shop, or on the internet
* The material was good, too.
* Of course, there was more I would have liked to talk about, more penetrating questions I would have liked to ask, but there is only so much you can pack into a mere 3 days of class. That is only natural.
* The show room, of course, is beautiful. Really, you can’t let students see the show room! One starts to drool and get ideas …. (Posted on 5/21/2018)
I have been to several different 'Firearms Training Schools" across the country and this was one of the most enjoyable course I have attended. Review by Steve A
Quality
The course was excellent from start to finish, and the environment was conducive to learning both from the casual and relaxed atmosphere and the free discussion allowed. Since this was a fairly diverse group of folks with a common interest, the different perspectives offered up were educational as well. Eduardo's unassuming quite confidence, always a mark of a true professional in his line of work, quickly established the credibility of the materials offered and opened the doors to learning right away. The class did not have to warm up to him at all.

I have been to several different 'Firearms Training Schools" across the country and this was one of the most enjoyable course I have attended. The small group was key to the success. I usually am in class groups of 10 to 20 and feel that the instructors are forced to spend more time with the weaker shooters and the safe ones get left out of the one to one coaching. This is usually due to time constraints. Not so this past weekend. I felt that I got my fair share and came away with the feeling I had encountered a mentor rather than a mere instructor. I was given a level of detailed analysis on my firing position that I had not ever been provided before, or at least in recent years. This was delivered in a very constructive and positive manner in terms that made a lasting impression and will be easy to remember. In fact going over my log book of the past six months on Sunday night, I found several notes on errant shots that now made sense. Simply awesome! (Posted on 5/4/2018)

The class is amazing. I am waiting for the SPR-2 now. Make sure not to miss out! (Posted on 5/4/2018)
This is a top-rate class. Eduardo through his many decades of experience brought a lot to the table and we all left better then we came. Review by Randy P
Quality
I left the class with a great respect for the Steyr Arms Company and the quality of the educator they brought in. I left there with a better knowledge of bullet path and with the variables estimated, first shot hits became easier. I left there with a much better understanding of the Patagonia Cold Bore Ballistic program, which in my opinion is the best in the world. I have tested it out to 2550 yards with many first shot hits. So in summary I left there a better Ballisticion, a better statistician, a better meteorologist, and a much better shooter.
Thank you Steyr for your hospitality, and for making such a nice rifle package with the PRO THB and the Zeiss 6-25 V4. An out-of-the-box X shooting combo for sure. Randy P (Posted on 3/14/2018)
