- Product Review (submitted on December 17, 2016):
- I had been stationed in S. Korea, where you can't really have guns, and I had been considering which pistol I wanted to purchase upon my return. As a military guy, I was looking at something that would fit the bill for a personal defense weapon but was also very versatile. I also wanted something that felt like an extension of myself. I had never shot a Glock and had an opportunity to shoot a G19 and I liked the balance and feel of it. I was also heavily considering the Sig P320. I didn't even know that Steyr made a pistol until my return, when I just happened across the S40. It felt good in my had but was a little small and although I wasn't necessarily a fan of .40, I figured it had to come in 9mm. I inquired around some local ranges to see if they had one I could shoot and I found one that happened to have the L9-A1. It felt AWESOME but slightly big for a CCW (at least in my hands). I was also really intrigued by the integrated lock and the trapezoidal sights. I spent the next two weeks looking at a lot of reviews and was bummed out to hear that there had been, historically speaking, a few FTF/FTE issues. However, the problem has been apparently fixed with the most recent model so I finally committed to the M9-A1. Considering the price tag was $530 (what I paid), that was a justifiable steal. I literally fired it straight out of the case and my recommendation is, the M9 comes with the same 17 round mags as the L9 and is much more concealable. Pull the trigger... figuratively. I don't think you will regret it.
